Description

Examples of frontal and lateral eyes in three predators (jumping spider, Salticus scenicus; barn owl, Tyto alba; human, Homo sapiens) and in three herbivores (cinnamon-headed green pigeon, Treron fulvicollis; european rabbit, Oryctolagus cuniculus; Grant's gazelle, Nanger granti). Note that the ancestors of humans first developed frontal eyes to live in the three-dimensional environment of the tree canopies, and only later coopted them for hunt.
